Why should I donate to Goodwill?
Goodwill has a long history and proven track record in effectively
enabling people to become self-sufficient. The revenue from our

And by reusing these goods we all benefit from reduced waste.

What do you do with the donations you receive?
Goodwill takes new and gently used items, sorts and resells them in
our network of retail stores and community outlets throughout the
Greater Toronto Area, Central and Eastern Ontario.
Will you pick up my donations at home?
We no longer pick up goods from homes. When you do see Goodwill
trucks in your neighborhood they are delivering and picking up donated
goods to our area stores or are on special donation drives.
Where do I take my stuff?
We would appreciate it if you would take your donations to any one
of Goodwill’s Retail Stores or Donation Centres. We have many
donation sites throughout Greater Toronto, Central and Eastern Ontario.
Use the "Find
a Donation Centre" search locator to find the nearest community
store and donation centre in your community.
Can I drop off my old appliances or furniture?
We resell the majority of the goods donated; however, we are forced
to take some dirty and broken materials to the landfill. Before
you donate, we ask you to keep in mind, “If you would give
it to a friend, give it to Goodwill.” Please help us minimize
our disposal fees by donating only items that are in good and saleable
condition. Some of our Goodwill Community Store locations and some of our Goodwill Donation
Centres may be able to accept large furniture and applicances
that are in clean, working condition and is no less than 10-15 years
old. Please contact your nearest Goodwill
store or donation centre to find out more information.
What happens if I donate a coat and by mistake leave my
favourite watch in one of the pockets?
We receive millions of items a year. When an item is donated by
mistake, we make every effort to find it; however, we process the
donations so quickly that it’s often impossible to find a
specific item once it enters the processing cycle.
Since the donations are free, why can’t you give
clothing for free to people in need?
There are two answers to this question:
First the donations are
not free. Goodwill has a cost in:
a) staffing all our Donation Centres
for 7 days per week
b) a fleet of trucks to move the materials
c) personnel required at the stores to process, price and sell
the merchandise.
Second, since its inception one hundred years ago,
Goodwill’s philosophy has been based on enabling people to
support themselves. Our pricing is such that most people, even the
most disadvantaged, can afford to pay for the goods they need in
our stores. The revenue generated go directly into our programs
and initiatives that assist people facing barriers to employment
get and keep a job.
