FAQs about our Stores

How often does your store inventory change?
Frequently! With thousands of items arriving in each of our stores daily, you’ll be sure to find everything you need at Goodwill.

What happens to the donated items that aren’t sold?
Goodwill has found creative uses for just about everything we receive. We recycle old clothing scraps into industrial cleaning cloths and sell items in bulk to salvage brokers. A large percentage of all donated goods are resold in some way, shape or form.

Why are the prices in your stores so high?
At Goodwill stores, we sell quality merchandise for a price much lower than you would pay for new merchandise. We establish competitive prices by surveying the market.

Do you still have auctions?
No, we put all gently used items on the sales floor as quickly as possible, even pieces that are real treasures. We encourage our customers to come often, as they’ll never know what great items they’ll find. Some stores may continue with special auctions, see stores for details.

Do all the Goodwill’s around the country do what you do?
Goodwill Industries of Toronto functions as an independent Canadian charitable agency while sharing information and experience with 205 member organizations operated autonomously throughout North America. All Goodwill organizations have similar missions, but how that mission is accomplished varies from Goodwill to Goodwill.
